A Turkish Airways flight made an emergency touchdown at New York’s JFK early Wednesday after the captain died onboard, airline officers stated.

The Airbus A350-900 was heading from Seattle to Turkish capital Istanbul when it made an excessive flip towards the Huge Apple, data from flight tracking site Flightaware shows.

The 59-year-old pilot “collapsed” through the flight, airline spokesman Yahya Ustun wrote on X.

“After an unsuccessful try to offer first assist, the flight crew of one other pilot and a co-pilot determined to make an emergency touchdown, however he died earlier than touchdown,” the spokesperson stated.

The aircraft landed safely at JFK airport shortly earlier than 6 a.m.

The pilot had labored for Turkish Airways since 2007 and had simply handed a medical examination in March that confirmed no well being issues, Ustun stated.
