A game-changing song and video. Following up his UK number one hit as Tubeway Army (Are ‘Friends' Electric?), Cars launched Gary Numan's solo career with another UK number one. Built around analogue synthesisers with no guitar, this was the purest form of Gary's ‘Machine Music' and the track has subsequently been sampled on numerous occasions. Promotional videos were also a rarity at the time and this one created the defining image of Gary Numan.

Mighty Boosh.. 😉 👏👏👏
I think he looks like "Sheldon Cooper". I have always loved this song.
This is totally illuminati yet a beautiful therapeutic song unlike what the satanists of today create.
check out Gary Numan with Nine inche nails. version.
Amazing how they already had wireless keyboards back then!
The drummer with the comedy hair do though.. 😂
Futuristic is a style, not a premonition — and if there's anything this song has in spades it's STYLE. Beyond brilliant.
1915 Ghost Gun 🪘💎💦👻😤👀😲🏃😂look alike if he was ball head
I was crazy about this song in high School I'm 56 years old and I'm still crazy about it now holla if you hear me
Just saw Gary Numan in concert! And yes they played "Cars"! Still fresh! And Gary looks and sounds GREAT! He doesn't age.
Great song. Total David Bowie vibe.
Love Ya Gary Newman ahead of his time
This is the ultimate demo derby song
This song will be with us forever, utterly brilliant, and I am priviledged to be old enough to remember when it came out. Thank you, Gary Numan, Bless your heart for sharing this.

When a synth could take us to the future with a single note, now if we could only go back to where it was so promising…
I Love This Song
what memories when the vice city car sounded through the streets 😭
RIP Cedric Sharpley, an awesome drummer.
1980: Great song!

Love this song 😎
"Brian had sex, with a really dumb girl, now he's taking his friend Stewie, to get some ice cream in his car"
this song played in my head when a very angry pedestrian attempted in vain to pull me from my vehicle and beat me to death over a percieved slight.
✌🏼legendary
I can’t help but feel there was a hugely missed opportunity 3 times to fit this song into one of the cars movies
Úžasné skvěle klávesy 👏
When Gary Numan burst on the scene in 79 hardcore Bowie fans like myself were up in arms about him totally ripping off his Berlin period. He did, and he did it beautifully!!!
Ps1 game?
They should've put this on the voyager as well
Saw this in 1980 on Nickelodeon tv show Pop Clips. Before MTV.
Right Future Center, so right. Grateful…
The original resting bitch face lol
I still remember hearing this on the radio when it came out, pumping out of the speakers of my parents' console stereo. I would have been 8 years old, and even to my little kid ears it sounded so different from anything else then. Like the way "Smells Like Teen Spirit" ushered in a new era, "Cars" was a gauntlet thrown down that the '70s were over and we were moving into a brave new future.
Here it is 2022 as I write this, and this song still sounds like it comes from some distant alien future.
1980's Futurism becomes 2020 Nostalgia… That's sort of weird…
I remember a stupid contest in school and a dumbass girl did an act on stage to that tune.
This great !
I fucking love this song…I fucking love this video…
Yeah got me for a while
