2021 may not have been the return to form we all had hoped it would be, but it was clear that genre films were the lifeblood of the industry this year. And so, with a truncated theatrical release schedule, streaming services taking charge, and VOD still an option, this list may look different than others. But like always, hopefully, you find yourself a hidden gem and see some of your favorites as well. Enjoy the video, pour yourself something nice, and Happy New Year from all of us over at Arrow In The Head and JoBlo Horror Originals!

Some of these I was a bit iffy about but I usually line up with your opinion so I will gladly give them a chance sooner than I probably would have. Thanks man!
What was that clip at the end
I actually totally agree with everything you said about army of the dead. It was just a fun ass movie and I really enjoyed it. Like you said, it really reminded me of 80s/90s horror stuff and it was an enjoyable watch.
So real answer is none 😂 2021 was a shit year for everything
Umm Buried was already made…. Oxygen is a copycat.
I’m glad someone put Son and Seance in their list. Those are super underrated imo
Army of the dead was probably my favorite movie of 2021
I am surprised Fear Street isn't here the first two made it into my list easily.
I’m sorry but I disagree. Saint Maude was already messed up when the movie started. We basically see history repeating itself with her new patient.
My favorite horror movie this year was The Night House
You have zero credibility after putting Army of the Dead on a best of list, unless that list is “Best way to make an awful movie”. Also, Malignant was incredibly bad. I don’t know if I can trust you internet folks about horror anymore.
🤔
a unique list that avoids the status norm. While I completely disagree with Jakob's Wife or Army of the Dead being on this list, I fully agree and support Oxygen being #1. What a solid movie overall
Yall are so fucking dramatic
Horror movies: a genre that has always been looked down upon by the Hollywood tastemakers. Also, a genre that has been consistently popular with audiences since the silent era.
‘oxygen’ started strong but petered out and barely left any impression overall. Bizarre choice for #1 (or on a list…at all), especially since many of the other films listed were really excellent.
Btw, it’s Anya Taylor Joy, not Anna.
I didn't like any of those films.
The legend of Harmony Heights Oyster Bay NY
Um, omitting Candyman and Psyco Goreman with trash like Army of the Dead is just sad. How do make even a horror list with so little Gore in it? You should review Romance movies instead.
Army of the Dead was a boring piece of shit movie. If it's considered a best of movie than it had to have been a woeful year. I was just so fucking bored watching it. It took me 3 hours to finish it because I kept going to see if there was more interesting things going on on youtube and facebook. Plus the obvious CGI blood and gore just looks fake. I'll never understand how anyone can get hardons for CGI blood and gore. It has never looked as good as practical gore and blood.
Woo! Phenomenal "Best Of" video. Thank you!! I'd heard of a few of these, but most of them fell way below my radar. I want to check them all out, as they're all a little different (from the sound of them,) but worthy of watching.
U put army of the dead and milingent over candyman and quite place 2 come on
You are right about army of the dead being devisive, in fact it's utter crap. How could the man who made one of the best remakes of a zombie movie DOTD make this? If it wasn't for the budget this would be something the Asylum would churn out and be in Sci Fi !!
Horror 🎥 pretty much took a back seat
to A QUIET PLACE in 2021.
Not much of a horror film, but what about “The Night House”? Btw, “Malignant” would’ve worked better as a B-Movie/Giallo throwback if it pulled back it’s excessive display of new camerawork technology a la Matrix. Sometimes less is more.
Antler's very disappointing, shouldn't be in any top ten list, had so much potential
Son ,good pick
Can't finish list, this is not horror, bye
2nd zombie pick,ridiculous, Jakobs wife,domestic revenge
How is night house not even on the list? Please tell me haven’t see it yet. I don’t agree with some of your picks but in general it was great list. But seriously The Night House deserves some love in my opinion
Check Saint Maud.
I'm loving this list. Finally one I agree with!!
Pretty weak year for horror movies imo.. liked malignant, last night in soho and quiet place 2 a lot, but cant think of any others atm that id consider good 🤔
Your "Fine, just fine" titles are all on the top of my list
My personal top 5:
05. Paranormal Activity: Next of Kin
04. Sator (brillant cinematography, atmosphere)
03. The Toll
02. The Stairs
01. A HOUSE ON THE BAYOU. By a mile, my number one horror/thriller. It has everything: great cast, mysterious mythology, twisted plot, thought-provoking philosophy/morality and suspenseful climax. CRIMINALLY UNDERRATED.
"Manson Bros Midnight Zombie Massacre" kills.
Wow! This could quite literally be my own personal list of 2021's biggest disappointments lol I really looked forward to Last night in Soho and I hated it, it was depressing and just left me feeling flat and miserable, worst film Edgar Wright has done by a mile.
Antlers, while I did enjoy most of the film, I just couldn't get my head around the almighty cop out of an ending, I don't think I've ever shouted "IS THAT IT?" as loud at the climax of a film in my life, the way the monster is defeated is so lame and underwhelming that it killed the film for me.
Son was errm, so so, watched it once and will never watch it again, it just didn't grab me.
Saint Maude was hyped up so much that I just expected something completely different than what we got, it bored the crap out of me.
Malignant was cool I enjoyed that one for what it was.
Army of the dead was one I looked forward to for ages and it really really disappointed me, what a huge let down of a film.
Manson brothers was just, crap lol
Jakobs wife was ok I guess, Larry Fassenden is always watchable no matter what he's in.
Seance was disappointing, so generic and bang average.
Haven't seen Oxygen at the time of writing but if it's on this list, Hmmm? Maybe I'll skip it lol
Each to thier own I suppose, I'm not about the slag you off and hurl death threats at you because I dislike most of what's on your list 😂
Glad that Psycho Goreman wasn't on here though, everyone loves that film, why? It's shite. lol That kid in it is one of, if not the most obnoxious actress I've ever seen, the acting is crap, the effects are crap, and yet everyone I speak to thinks it's a bloody masterpiece, I don't get it, I've seen films 50 times better than that one get ripped to shreds lol
I watched malignant and guessed the plotwist at the first third of the movie when they found one of the victims, if you watch giallo is expected the killer is nonsense but they rely on the kills and mistery more than a cohesive or logical conclussion. But we still on the mentallity of "too smart for horror movies".
Antler was awfull to me cause it looked like a carbone copy of all the other Urban legends movies or rather a carbone copy of Pumkin head and Krampus
Oof, malignant was terribly bad. I enjoyed laughing at it more than what they were going for. It is bat shit insanity. The HDTGM episode was great lol
Barbara Crampton can do no wrong for me. And how awesome is it that she is still kicking ass?
Malignant is the masterpiece of 2021!
I'll have to check some of these out. I've only seen half of the movies on the list and what I did see I did enjoy. Thanks for the video, Lance!
